Marry Mart Workshops: Florals with Malori of Hoot and Holler

What trends are you seeing with florals this year and will you be talking about it at the workshop?

Last year was all about marsala, peonies, and weddings with a boho vibe. This year, we're seeing a huge shift towards much lighter color palettes and many more geometric details. We will definitely talk about this during our workshop because we've noticed that a lot of girls have a tough time narrowing down their colors and often default to the pantone color of the year or to blush and white because they're classic choices. We would love to empower our brides to step out of the box with color and try something new.

Do's and Don'ts when hiring a florist?


  • Trust your florist to choose flowers you might not have known about. People get really caught up in needing specific types of flowers that they've seen on Pinterest or in magazines but there are an overwhelming variety of options and your florist can help guide you to something more unique or better suited to your style.

  • Be upfront about your budget. Often we can create similar looks at different price points so if we know what you're looking to spend from the get-go then we can eliminate a lot of back and forth by creating the perfect quote from day one.

  • Speak up about style preferences. If you know that you really love a BIG bouquet or your favorite type of centerpiece is more rectangular than round, please tell us. We always ask for a link to your Pinterest board because we are able to spot patterns in the photos you've pinned to help create your vision. However, it is always helpful to hear your preferences before we start writing a quote for you.


  • Our quotes are custom so when you are hiring Hoot & Holler or Noir as your floral designer, we want you to be pretty sure you like what we're doing. Make sure you really take the time to look at the work on your florist's website before requesting a custom quote. It takes a lot of time to put together the perfect design plan for your wedding flowers and it's important to know that our general style matches your aesthetic before we create your designs.

  • Get hung up on exact shades of colors. Flowers are both predictable and unpredictable which, ultimately, is the beauty in them. While we can narrow down varieties to make sure the color is as close to a swatch as possible, at the end of the day we can't control the exact shade of color your flowers come in. Depending on seasonality, weather (both good and bad), and the type of flower there are always variations in the colors of blooms. Embrace the unexpected - it always turns out beautifully in the end.

  • Ask for specific stem counts in your arrangements.We won't tell you because sometimes what we plan for isn't the perfect arrangement and we want the freedom to create something amazing for you. If we know we are committed to using 5 roses in an arrangement but it really only needs 4, we want to honor the art and style of the flowers over a number on a list.

I've been working with flowers for over three years and have been focusing on creating the perfect wedding day florals for just over two years now. My favorite part of the job is when my team and I get to deliver the bouquets to the bride and her bridesmaids. It's always such a touching moment to see the months of hard work come together for such a beautiful moment. We consider it a privilege to work with couples on their wedding day and we absolutely love creating the perfect designs for all of our clients' unique personalities. Honestly, we have the best job.
